Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is on the verge of signing for Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid according to the widespread reports in the British media.

The Daily Mirror revealed that the Gunners midfielder will leave for Spain on a season-long loan deal.

It was disclosed that Atletico Madrid will pay a £2m loan fee for the Uruguayan international player with the option to make the move permanent for £22m next summer when the loan contract expires.

Arsenal were keen to agree on a loan deal with an obligation to buy or a permanent transfer this summer but they had to settle for a loan deal with the option to sign him on a permanent transfer next summer due to the desire to leave Arsenal on the part of the player.

Lucas Torreira want to leave Arsenal for Atletico Madrid in search of first team football and because of his desire to play under Diego Simeone at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Atletico Madrid will need to sell one player before they can confirm his loan signing and the player will be Mexican international Hector Herrera.

Arsenal are interested in signing Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid and they were hoping that a swap deal involving Lucas Torreira would make it possible only for the Spaniards to remain adamant that his €50m release clause must be paid in full.
