Error Prone Goalkeeper Set For Blues Stay

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is now expected to stay at the club for this season after clubs baulked at his transfer fee.

Kepa Arrizabalaga was looking for a way out of his nightmarish stay at Chelsea but that won’t be possible because of the asking price for his transfer.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia wants £60m for the Spanish international shot stopper and interested clubs are reluctant to pay the fee mainly due to the financial effects of the dreaded Coronavirus Pandemic.

Chelsea paid a then club-record £71m for Kepa Arrizabalaga to secure his transfer. They had to activate his release clause at La Liga side Athletic Bilbao to sign him two years ago.

He has been error prone for the better part of this year and that prompted Chelsea manager Frank Lampard to drop him for some games towards the end of last season.

Kepa has continued his error prone ways into this season and that led to his omission from the starting XI for the last two games.

Willy Caballero started the last league game at West Brom which ended in a 3-3 draw, while new signing Edouard Mendy was in between the sticks as the Blues were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the fourth stage via penalties.

Chelsea were beaten on penalties by Tottenham Hotspur after the two teams played out a 1-1 draw at the end of 90 minutes.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is now the second choice goalkeeper behind the aforementioned Mendy and that prompted his decision to want to leave Stamford Bridge.
