Arsenal have been handed a big boost in their hunt for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar whom they want to sign before the transfer market shuts next month.

The Gunners were given a massive lift after the €60m-rated Lyon midfielder was left out of the starting XI for the French Ligue 1 clash at Bordeaux by manager Rudi Garcia.

His place in the Lyon XI was taken by Karl Toko Ebambi but Rudi Garcia soon called on him from the bench as the Champions League finalists found it difficult to find a way past Bordeaux.

Houssem Aouar was a 59th minute introduction into the game in the place of Moussa Dembele. The decision to start him on the bench has reinforced transfer rumours which has linked him with clubs like Arsenal, Real Madrid and Juventus.

French publication L’Equipe revealed that the player wants a transfer away from Lyon.

Arsenal will have to sell some players to fund the Houssem Aouar transfer and that’s well underway with the imminent transfer of Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa.

The Gunners shot stopper is expected to sign for Aston Villa in the coming days in a deal said to be worth £20m including add-ons. The initial fee is £16m as per Sky Sports.
