Former Premier League player Paul Merson has warned Chelsea to avoid Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha like a plague amidst the rumours that the Blues want to make the Ivorian national team player their first signing of the winter transfer window this month.

Paul Merson wrote about Chelsea and Wilfried Zaha in his column in the Daily Star.

According to him, Chelsea should avoid Zaha for two major reasons.

The first reason is his hefty price tag with Crystal Palace slamming an £80m transfer fee on him.

Former Arsenal and Aston Villa midfielder Paul Merson believes that Zaha is too expensive for a player that does not guarantee double figures in goals per season.

He has scored 29 goals in the last four seasons at Crystal Palace.

His second reason is that the signing of Zaha will block the path of the young wingers at the club.

Chelsea have some exciting young players like Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount.

North Londoners Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in Zaha who recently changed his agent for the sole aim of getting a big move away from Palace.

Pini Zahavi is a renowned Israeli agent and he now represents the Crystal Palace star who has parted ways with long-term representative Will Salthouse.
