Reigning European champions Liverpool are potentially facing a demotion to the Europa League ahead of their trip to face Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League.

The Reds won the Champions League last season to make it six European titles via the 2-0 win over fellow English top flight side Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool have to avoid defeat against the Austrians to book their place in the knockout stage of the Champions League this term.

The Reds warmed up for the game with a thumping win over hosts Bournemouth in the Premier League at the weekend.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, and Mohamed Salah were all on the scoresheet as Liverpool secured a 3-0 win to maintain their lead at the Premier League summit.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made several changes to his starting XI for the Bournemouth with the likes of Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum rested.

Klopp is expected to revert back to his tried and trusted starting XI for the Champions League meeting with Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday night.

Probable Liverpool XI vs Red Bull Salzburg (4-3-3): Alisson Becker; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dejan Lovren, Virgil Van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner; Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
