It was a dominant start from the home side but their guests didn’t fold up as they battled their way back into the game thanks to South Korean international Hwang Hee-Chan who floored Virgil Van Dijk before slotting home the first goal for Salzburg three minutes after Liverpool had gone 3-0 up.
On the resumption of the second half, Red Bull Salzburg applied more pressure on the Liverpool rearguard and they were rewarded with almost quickfire goals from Takumi Minamino and Champions League topscorer Erling Haaland.
