How Liverpool Start To Champions League Defense Ended In Defeat

Reigning European champions Liverpool started the defense of their title on a losing note after they were beaten by Italian Serie A giants Napoli in their first game since winning the Champions League title last season.
Liverpool won the Champions League title in the last campaign by beating fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in their final meeting at the New Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.
The Reds won 2-0 against Tottenham Hotspur to seal a sixth European title and the same scoreline was recorded against them in their Champions League opener this season.
Napoli beat Liverpool 2-0 in their Group E meeting courtesy two late goals.

Before the Napoli goals, Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian and Napoli shot stopper Alex Meret had both kept the scoreline at goalless with some fantastic goalkeeping.
Napoli took the lead eight minutes from time after Dries Mertens successfully dispatched the penalty awarded after Liverpool defender Andy Robertson was adjudged to have brought down Jose Callejon down in the box.
Liverpool pushed for an equalizer afterward and that paved the way for Napoli to wrap up the win through substitute Fernando Llorente who came on as a 69th minute replacement for Hirving Lozano.
He capitalized on a rare mistake from Virgil Van Dijk as Napoli started their Champions League campaign with a big win over the holders.
