Ander Herrera joined French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG) this summer after the expiration of his contract at Manchester United.
His Manchester United contract expired this summer thus paving the way for him to sign for PSG.
Manchester United wanted to give him a new deal but they were unable to convince him to sign a new contract mainly because of his financial demands.
Apart from Blaise Matuidi, Manchester United have also been linked with midfielders such as Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes, Real Betis midfielder Giovanni Lo Celso and Newcastle United player Sean Longstaff.
Manchester United will sign at least one midfielder between now and the end of the transfer window next month.
