Italian Serie A giants AS Roma have announced the signing of midfielder Amadou Diawara from rivals Napoli.

His transfer was confirmed by the Italian capital club earlier on Monday.

The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract at his new club until the end of the 2023/24 season.

AS Roma have paid €21m to secure the signing of former Bologna star Amadou Diawara.

The new Roma signing was previously linked with a move to Chelsea.

He is presently with the Guinean national team at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt.

The Guinean midfielder has moved to Rome as part of a swap deal involving defender Kostas Manolas who has moved from AS Roma to Napoli.

Both clubs decided to treat the two transfers separately for financial reasons.

Greek international centre back Kostas Manolas has joined Napoli from AS Roma after both clubs agreed on a €36m deal for him amidst the transfer reports linking the defender with a move to Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United.

Napoli decided to pay the €36m release clause in his contract at AS Roma to secure his transfer.

He will replace Raul Albiol at Napoli after the Spaniard joined La Liga club Villarreal for €4m.
