Scottish Premiership giants Celtic are plotting a move for Middlesbrough defender Paddy McNair according to the latest reports coming out of the Scottish media.

Paddy McNair is also attracting the interest of newly promoted Premier League club Sheffield United.

According to the specific report from Football Scotland, Celtic have turned their attention to Paddy McNair after their move for Motherwell star David Turnbull.

A knee problem was detected during the medical for Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull and that led to the collapse of his transfer to Celtic.

The Scottish giants want to sign Paddy McNair who can play either as a midfielder or as a defender.

The 24-year-old made 23 appearances for Middlesbrough during the English Championship last season as the Midlands club missed out narrowly on the playoffs.

Middlesbrough missed out on the Championship playoffs and that led to the exit of manager Tony Pulis whose contract expired this summer.

Paddy McNair came through the ranks at Manchester United before joining Sunderland whom he scored seven goals in 28 appearances for on the back of his move from the Red Devils.

He has 29 caps for the Northern Ireland in addition to the fact that there are three years left on the four-year deal he signed last summer when the Irish player became a Middlesbrough player.
