Two ex-Arsenal skippers have been named on a three-man managerial shortlist at Newcastle United who will be without a new manager as from the start of next month.
This is according to the report from the Daily Express.
The former Arsenal captains, Patrick Vieira and Mikel Arteta, are in line to replace Rafael Benitez at Newcastle United.
Ex-Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez will leave Newcastle United at the end of his contract with the club on June 30.
The Spaniard will leave the club after three years on the Tyneside.
He was appointed the Newcastle United manager towards the end of the 2015/16 season with the Magpies in serious trouble but he was unable to save them from relegation to the English Championship.
Rafael Benitez was on a temporary deal as at then before he went on to sign a three-year deal.
The former Valencia and Real Madrid manager brought Newcastle United back to the Premier League the following season.
He led the Magpies to a 10th place finish in their first season back in the top flight before 13th place finish in the second season (last campaign).
Apart from Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard also made the three-man managerial shortlist.
The Rangers manager recently distanced himself from the Derby County managerial job.
