Europa League winners Chelsea have reportedly agreed to a big money transfer for midfielder Mateo Kovacic who spent last season on loan at Stamford Bridge.

According to trusted Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea have agreed to a €50m deal, including add-ons, to sign Kovacic this summer.

Chelsea can sign Kovacic despite their transfer ban since he has been registered last season while he was on loan.

The Croatian World Cup star signed for Chelsea on a season-long loan deal from Spanish giants Real Madrid last summer as part of the transfer that took Belgian international goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid signed Courtois for £35m in addition to sending Mateo Kovacic on loan to Chelsea.

Kovacic joined Chelsea shortly after he played his part in helping Croatia reach the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.

Croatia were beaten 4-2 by France in the final as the French team sealed a second World Cup title in their history.

Mateo Kovacic was an ever-present for Chelsea last season under the guidance of former boss Maurizio Sarri who has left the club to join Italian champions Juventus after one season.

He was in the Chelsea starting XI for the Europa League final against Arsenal which ended in a 4-1 win over the Gunners as the Blues finished their season with a trophy.
