Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has left Newcastle United after three years at the club.

His exit was confirmed earlier on Monday.

Rafael Benitez has been at Newcastle United since 2016 when he joined initially to secure their Premier League spot amidst serious relegation worries.

The former Chelsea manager was unable to save the Magpies from suffering relegation at the end of the 2015/16 season.

Rafael Benitez had signed a short-term contract when he joined Newcastle United towards the end of the 2015/16 season.

He went on to sign a three-year deal in the summer of 2016 despite the fact that he was unable to secure the Magpies’ Premier League status.

Benitez masterminded promotion to the top flight for the Magpies at the first time of asking in his first full season in charge before leading them to a top-ten finish in his first season in the Premier League as a Newcastle United manager.

He had earlier taken charge of both Liverpool and Chelsea in the competition.

Rafael Benitez led Newcastle United to 13th place at the end of the just concluded Premier League campaign.

Since Newcastle United returned to the top flight, Rafael Benitez has been at loggerheads with club owner Mike Ashley over transfers.
