Newly crowned European champions Liverpool will reportedly rival Premier League opposition Manchester United in their quest to sign Real Betis defender Junior Firpo.

This is according to the publication from the stables of popular English news outlet Daily Mail.

It was revealed that both Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in the Real Betis left-back.

Real Betis have already slapped a £45m transfer fee on Junior Firpo for interested clubs.

The 22-year-old has been a regular fixture in the Real Betis team since the 2017/18 season.

He scored 3 goals and also provided four assists in 24 appearances in the Spanish La Liga during the just concluded season.

His best league game last season came in the away clash at champions Barcelona as he scored and also provided an assist to lead Real Betis to a shock 4-3 win over the Catalan giants at the Nou Camp.

Junior Firpo is presently with the Spanish u-21 team at the ongoing u-21 European Championship in Italy and San Marino.

The Spanish team has reached the first knockout stage of the competition.

Liverpool need a new left-back this summer after the exit of backup option Alberto Moreno who left the club upon the expiration of his contract.
