Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand has been surprisingly linked with a move to the Italian Serie A this summer.

The 29-year-old England international left-back is a target for rejuvenated Inter Milan who are looking to rescue Italian top flight football from the hold of Serie A champions Juventus.

In a bid to achieve the feat of reclaiming the Italian Serie A title, senior Inter Milan officials have appointed Antonio Conte as their new manager and the former Chelsea and Italian national team boss has been saddled with the responsibility to displace his former club Juventus.

The start of the Italian Serie A domination by Juventus was started by the same Conte who won three of the first titles for the Old Lady between 2012 and 2014.

Fellow Italian tactician Maximiliano Allegri took over from Antonio Conte at Juventus and he led the Old Lady to last five league titles from the eight straight Serie A crowns.

Antonio Conte is almost likely to employ his customary three-man central defence at Inter Milan which will definitely suit former Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand who has two years left on his Southampton contract.

The Saints have already slapped a £15m price tag on him.

Inter Milan Starting XI (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic; Miranda, Diego Godin, Milan Skriniar; Ryan Bertrand, Radja Nainggolan, Marcelo Brozovic, Kwadwo Asamoah, Dalbert; Ivan Perisic, Mauro Icardi.
