Tariq Lamptey has explained his reason for leaving West London outfit, Chelsea after graduating through their academy system as he is now having a good football career at Amex Stadium with Brighton.

The 20-year-old defender was able to get some minutes at the Stamford Bridge before he left. He had his debut against Arsenal and two other games in the 2019-20 campaign before he left.

Tariq Lamptey is now able to showcase his potential at the Amex Stadium and it is profiting Brighton which would have been enjoyed by Chelsea as well but he made it clear that he is convinced that he made the best decision to have parted ways with the West London outfit.

Explaining his move, Lamptey told 90min: “I’m an ambitious boy. I look at things and enjoy them at the moment, but the next day I’m looking to see what I need to improve on and how I can stay at that level. I’m always looking for a chance to play again, and that moment made me even more hungry. I’d had a taste of it and I wasn’t going to let it go.

“I sat down with the coaches, family members and agents and thought about what’s best for me. It was a really tough decision. Being at a club since the age of nine, going up through the whole system and making your first-team debut, everything happened so quickly, but I had to look at where I would get the most football and how I could take my game to the next level.

However, he confessed that it was not an easy decision to make but after sitting with his family, he had to make the decision that has turned out to be the best for him.

Meanwhile, leaving Brighton in the future is a possibility for Tariq Lamptey as he is opened to moving to another level.
