Man United are not leaving anything to chance in their chase of RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano as they are keen to improve the performance of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

This move has been backed by the Red Devils legend Paul Scholes who believes his former club must make the signing to improve their defence and avoid unnecessary defeat.

The current Man United team is accused of not having the right quality to compete for the title, especially suffering a defeat to Arsenal last Sunday.

Man United can only boast of Harry Maguire as the top player in their defence and will need a top player to partner him to be able to achieve their season’s target.

The first shot at Dayot Upamecano failed as he was not interested in leaving RB Leipzig, especially as he recently signed a new deal with the club.

Now Man United want to make a fresh and improved offer for him and are hoping to win this time.

Paul Scholes said the 22-year-old is the type of player needed at Man United and will be able to solve their issues at the back just as he is currently helping the German club.

“This is the type of defender I think United need, he’s very different to Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. Upamecano absolutely loves one-vs-ones, he loves getting down that channel because he knows he’s gonna beat them.

“It’s very much the same as what Rio used to do, what Jaap Stam used to do. It frees the rest of the team to worry about attacking play because you know you’ve got a centre-half who is going to defend and he’ll do it all day.” He said

Red Devils will have to meet the £55 million valuation of the 22-year-old and face the battle from Liverpool to be able to sign him.
