Popular transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that talks are ongoing between Liverpool and Brazilian midfielder Fabinho over a new deal at Anfield.

The Brazilian joined the Merseyside outfit from French Ligue 1 outfit Monaco for about £40million in 2018. He is now a major part of Jurgen Klopp’s team. He is an incredible player who can play as a central defender and a midfielder. His versatility for the team is now set to be rewarded.

Reports confirm that the former Ligue 1 player turned down offers from the Spanish La Liga last summer. He is set to be rewarded with a new and improved deal.

Fabrizio Romano, therefore, gave the hint that talks have been opened by the parties involved and an announcement is expected to be made as soon as a deal is agreed upon by the midfielder.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that talks are ongoing between Liverpool and midfielder Fabinho over a new contract.

He, therefore, hinted that Fabinho is not the only Liverpool player to be handed a new deal after hinting that Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk will also extend his stay at Anfield.

“Talks are going to start for Fabinho to extend his contract with Liverpool. It is the same situation [as] Van Dijk, they have the same contract, so two years [remaining] with Liverpool.

“Fabinho wants to extend his contract with Liverpool. He [gave] an interview explaining he is so happy with Liverpool, but he’s also so happy for the future of Liverpool; [he has been] talking with [Jurgen] Klopp about what’s going to happen in the future of the club.

“So, he wants to extend his contract, and next year, I’m convinced he’s going to talk with Liverpool to extend his contract. His agents are waiting for a call from Liverpool. The situation is so calm because he had a bid, last summer, from a top club in Spain, and he decided to stay at Liverpool.

“So, he’s convinced that his future is at Liverpool and next year they were going to start to talk [about a new] four or five-year contract with Liverpool.”

Virgil Van Dijk is currently out of play following an injury he sustained against Everton earlier this season.
