Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has very little choice to call upon in the defence when his team resumes their Premier League action at the weekend as a number of his defenders are currently injured.

Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk will not be available for selection again this season after his injury against Everton in the Merseyside derby while Fabinho has been ruled out for injury as well. Joel Matip cannot be trusted with his fitness level as he has been inconsistent as a result of injuries.

Jurgen Klopp can now boast of Joe Gomez as the only senior centre-back which will force him to turn his attention to Rhys Williams as the January transfer window is yet to be opened for reinforcement.

With the teenager set to feature regularly for Liverpool, he could be the new Virgil Van Dijk and the revelation for the season despite having little experience with first-team football.

However, he is known to have some great qualities that can be compared to that of the injured Dutch defender which could be the weapon to stop opponents and help the team. He is good on the hair.

The 19-year-old has contested 17 aerial duels so far, and won 12 of them, an average of 70.6 per cent, more than some of the big players in the league. He also has the highest of 6-foot-3.

However, Rhys Williams might not impress immediately at Anfield but with Jurgen Klopp willing to invest faith in him, the opportunity might be what he has been waiting for to make a name for himself.

Meanwhile, it fears have been expressed in a report by Liverpool Echos that the German boss might not consider the signature of any player in the coming transfer window and that will no doubt leave the fans disappointed but consistent wins could also convince them.
