Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that he had a conversation with former player and Netherland international Robin Van Persie after he left the club.

It would be recalled that Robin Van Persie left the Emirates Stadium to join Man United at the Old Trafford.

The legendary Arsenal boss revealed that after leaving the club, Robin Van Persie phoned him, asking to return to the Emirates Stadium but he turned it down, explaining that the decision was in the best interest of the club as well as to involve more of younger players.

According to Arsene Wenger, Robin Van Persie made it clear that he will not extend his contract in 2012 as he was receiving interest from several top clubs. The Frenchman said he had to negotiate his departure for £24 million which the fans were unhappy about.

The French boss added that Robin Van Persie was able to improve Alex Ferguson’s team and helped them win the Premier League title but when he was no longer needed, he phoned to return and his request was rejected.

Robin Van Persie is known for his goal-scoring ability and was able to give a good account of himself at Arsenal and Man United.
