It has been revealed that Spanish La Liga outfit Barcelona also came knocking for the signature of Arsenal versatile player Ainsley Maitland-Niles before the decision was made on his future.

At the opening of the summer transfer window, it was reported that Ainsley Maitland-Niles was pencilled down for a move away from the North London outfit to be able to make some funds but after his performances in the few games that were handed to him, there was a change.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles may not be assured of a regular first-eleven football but he has been assured by manager Mikel Arteta to form a major part of his rebuild and project at the Emirates Stadium.

The versatile player, who can play at both wing-back positions as well as a midfielder, has since settled down in the Arsenal team with his future already settled at the club.

However, it is reported that the Spanish La Liga outfit were keen on the Arsenal player but they later opted for Sergio Dest as it was obvious that Mikel Arteta will not be releasing him.

Several clubs in the English Premier League were also attracted and came looking for the signature of Ainsley Maitland-Niles but they were all turned down by the Gunners.
