Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas has disclosed that Premier League giants Arsenal made a bid for club skipper Houssem Aouar.

The Lyon chief corroborated widespread media reports that the Gunners made a second offer to sign the 22-year-old Frenchman via his official Twitter account.

According to him, Arsenal are nowhere near their valuation of the player before adding that he expects the player to lead the club back into the Champions League.

Lyon reached the Champions League semi-finals in the last campaign but they didn’t qualify for the competition this season.

Arsenal made their first offer for Houssem Aouar at the start of this transfer window as confirmed by Lyon’s sporting director Juninho Pernambucano. The Gunners offered a player-plus-cash deal for their transfer target.

Matteo Guendouzi was offered to Lyon by Arsenal and the offer was turned down.

The second Arsenal bid was made last week but the €36m offer has also been rejected by the French Ligue 1 side.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants to add a creative midfielder to his team in the form of Houssem Aouar.

The Spaniard also wants to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey this summer but the Gunners will have to pay his €50m release clause upfront.
