He has less than a year left on his existing Gunners contract and the German could cost between €10m and €12m.
Italian news outlet Corriere della Serra revealed that capital club Lazio don’t mind paying the aforementioned fee.
Shkodran Mustafi is presently injured following the knee injury sustained towards the end of last season.
The German is expected to return to full training next month.
Arsenal have two new central defenders this summer and that has pushed Mustafi down the pecking order.
The Gunners signed Gabriel Magalhaes from French club Lille in a £25m deal earlier this summer and he has already made his mark with a goal on his debut.
The second centre back is William Saliba after he returned from his loan spell at Saint Etienne.
