Chelsea have broken their transfer record to sign highly rated attacker Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga.

Kai Havertz is widely regarded as the best young prospect in German football and the Blues have wasted no time in snapping him up on a long-term contract ahead of the new season.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have paid €85m (£75.8m) for Kai Havertz to make the 21-year-old their most expensive player ever ahead of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Spanish shot stopper became the most expensive player in the history of Chelsea when he moved to Stamford Bridge from Athletic Bilbao for £71m two years ago.

As part of the Kai Havertz deal, Chelsea will send new recruit Malang Sarr on loan for the season.

Malang Sarr, 21, is one of the seven players signed by Chelsea this summer having joined on a free transfer at the end of his contract at Nice.

Kai Havertz is the seventh signing of this summer at Chelsea.

The other players signed by the Blues this summer include free agent Thiago Silva, English left-back Ben Chilwell, Moroccan international star Hakim Ziyech, Xavier Mbuyemba and Timo Werner.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is still in the market to further boost his squad with his sights set on the goalkeeping position.
