Rennes have reportedly failed in a bid to add at least one Chelsea player to the deal for goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

According to French publication L’Equipe, Chelsea and Rennes have agreed a €25m deal for the shot stopper to move to Stamford Bridge.

It was also revealed that no Chelsea player will be included in the transfer.

Chelsea want to sign a new goalkeeper in the current transfer window and Rennes shot stopper Edouard Mendy has been identified as their target. The two clubs have been in discussion for the better part of this month and a deal was expected to have been concluded by now.

Initially, it was reported that Rennes were trying to sign a replacement for Mendy before an official announcement of his transfer to Chelsea was made. Granada goalkeeper Rui Silva and German international shot stopper Kevin Trapp were the potential replacements targeted by Rennes.

Afterwards, it was revealed that the issue of adding at least a Chelsea player (Fikayo Tomori or Olivier Giroud) was responsible for the delay in the announcement of the Eduardo Mendy transfer to Chelsea and not the matter of signing a replacement.

Eduardo Mendy will challenge Kepa Arrizabalaga and the ageing Willy Caballero for the number one shirt in the Chelsea goal once he completes his move to the club.
