Italian Serie A heavyweights AC Milan have stepped up their interest in Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare according to journalist Duncan Castles.

On his transfer podcast, Duncan Castles revealed that Milan have already made a bid for the player who continues to be linked with Premier League clubs like Newcastle United, Arsenal and Manchester United.

The Red Devils were strongly linked with Soumare in the January transfer market earlier this year but they have signed two midfielders since then.

Manchester United splashed an initial fee of £47m on Bruno Fernandes whom they signed from Sporting Lisbon in Portugal in January and the Portuguese international has been an instant hit at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have also signed Donny Van De Beek from Ajax Amsterdam this summer in a £40m deal. The Dutch international has taken the nunber 34 jersey for the new season.

Journalist Duncan Castles said that AC Milan have lodged a bid of €25m for Boubakary Soumare in addition to a significant sellon clause and it remains to be seen whether the offer will be enough to prise the France u-21 international from Lille.

AC Milan want to sign a new midfielder this summer and they have also been linked with the likes of Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis and Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
