Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told by Liverpool legend John Barnes to make an approach for West Ham United player Declan Rice in the coming summer transfer window.

The defensive midfielder is rated one of the best in the English Premier League and has been receiving interest from a number of clubs for the past transfer windows.

Chelsea were heavily linked with the midfielder in the last summer transfer window but the Hammers were keen to retain him at West Ham.

However, the Liverpool legend thinks the Red Devils boss might be lucky with a try to snap up the midfielder to help bolster his team ahead of the coming season.

John Barnes stated that he does not expect Declan Rice to earn a starting role at the Old Trafford because of the presence of Nemanja Matic who has just signed a contract extension but noted that the West Ham player will be a good addition and one for the future if Man United makes such an investment.

Howbeit, the transfer window is yet to be opened as Man United are keen to finish the season on a good note by securing a Champions League qualification, and winning the Europa League title with the FA Cup already lost.
