Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette was a signing that gave a lot of Gunners Faithfuls hope when the North Londoners swooped in on him during the summer of 2017 but is it safe to say that the Frenchman has not matched those lofty expectations especially in the last 12 to 18 months and some of these fans have made their peace on the possible sale of the player this summer.
Lacazette was a regular goalscorer at Lyon FC of France whom he captained before moving to Arsenal in a then club-record deal. The Gunners paid around £46m to secure his signing as they capitalised on a failed move to Spanish La La outfit Atletico Madrid due to the transfer ban imposed on the Spaniards.
Alexandre Lacazette started his Arsenal career like a house on fire and he was the prominent man in the Gunners attack until the club broke their transfer record once again six months after his arrival. Gabonese international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the new man in the Arsenal attack following his transfer from German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

Arsenal paid £56m for Aubameyang and he quickly formed a potent partnership with Lacazette who blossomed from that efficient and effective combination to emerge as the Gunners’ Player of the Year for the 2018/19 season. Lacazette has not been able to maintain that form for Arsenal in the last one year and that has left a lot of fans frustrated.
Alexandre Lacazette has been completely overshadowed by strike partner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the Arsenal attack. Lacazette has struggled for goals, while Aubameyang has been a regular source of goals for the Gunners.
Aubameyang has been the leading goalscorer at Arsenal for the past two years and several Gunners Faithfuls have demanded the sale of Lacazette to accommodate the signing of an equally potent striker like Aubameyang.
The complains from the Arsenal fans has led to the question whether it is the right time for the Gunners to sell Lacazette who also lost his place to both youthful strikers Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah at various times this season.
If Arsenal are to sell Alexandre Lacazette this summer, Spanish giants Atletico Madrid remains the best bet for the player. The Spanish capital club is the bookmakers’ favourite to sign him ahead of the summer’s transfer market.
