Manchester United have suffered from a lack of midfield quality this season especially in the Premier League and they are expected to rectify the situation when the transfer window reopens later this summer.
The midfield became threadbare towards the end of last year after the injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.
French World Cup winner Pogba has hardly played a game for Manchester United this season because of a troublesome ankle injury, while Scotland international Scott McTominay was a regular fixture in the Red Devils starting XI until he sustained a knee injury during the home game against Newcastle United on Boxing Day.
McTominay has since recovered from that injury and was recently part of the squad to the winter break preseason camp in Spain, while Pogba is still recovering after ankle surgery.
Manchester United have already recruited a midfielder in the last transfer window and they are expected to sign at least one more this summer. Pogba’s future at Old Trafford is in doubt and the club could need one more midfielder if the Frenchman leaves the former champions this summer.

Here are midfield options for Manchester United this summer:
1. Boubakary Soumare
The Lille midfielder is on the radar of several clubs in the Premier League after his breakthrough campaign with his French Ligue 1. He was linked with both Chelsea and Manchester United in January. Soumare could be the man to replace Pogba if he leaves the club this summer.
2. James Maddison
The Leicester City playmaker has had a fantastic season and he’s one of the midfield targets of Manchester United ahead of this summer’s transfer window. He has scored nine goals in all competitions for the Foxes this season.
3. Jack Grealish
The Aston Villa skipper has given his permission for a move to Manchester United to happen according to re ent reports. He has been the best player at Villa Park by miles.
