Chelsea can’t afford to go through a third transfer window with new signings to boost the quality of players in their squad.
The Blues were prevented from making signings last summer after the FIFA transfer ban imposed on them for violating rules relating to the transfer of underage players though it must be pointed out that they were able to make the transfer of Croatian national team midfielder Mateo Kovacic permanent in a £40m deal.
The Kovacic transfer was possible as he had been registered when the former Inter Milan player joined the Blues on loan from Real Madrid.
Chelsea were not able to sign players for a second successive transfer window last month as they could not push through with a move for their targets. They failed to sign players like Paris Saint Germain (PSG) striker Edinson Cavani, Napoli attacker Dries Mertens and key Lyon player Moussa Dembele.

The Blues are in fourth position but they are in danger of losing that spot with fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur closing down on them. Chelsea have not been helped with a lack of signings from last month and they are under threat for that final Champions League spot from Spurs who are just four points adrift with 13 league games left to play in the Premier League this term.
Chelsea are expected to back manager Frank Lampard in the transfer market this summer with new players and a major shakeup could happen at the club. Let’s examine the players likely to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer:
1. Michy Batshuayi
The Belgian international was linked with Crystal Palace last month but nothing came out of those transfer rumours. He could leave the club later this year.
2. Pedro Rodriguez
The Spanish international has few months left on his present contract with the Blues who are reluctant to hand him a new deal.
