Premier League leaders Liverpool are gradually closing in on their first league title since the English top flight was rebranded into the current format at the start of the 1992/93 campaign.

To put it into context, Liverpool have never won the Premier League since it began 28 years ago and they are without any form of league title in three decades.

The current crop of Liverpool players are on the verge of changing the club’s story for good with the Reds now seven victories from a first league title in 30 years after nearest challengers and outgoing champions Manchester City lost another game.

Liverpool’s record in the league this season has been almost spotlight with 73 points from the maximum 75 points available via the 25 games played this term.

Only Manchester United have been able to take points off Liverpool who have now won 16 games in a row in the Premier League after the 4-0 drubbing handed to Southampton at home at the weekend.

Liverpool have 23 victories and one draw from 24 league games.

Here are the top three performers in what has been a breathtaking season for the Merseyside giants.

1. Sadio Mane

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp focuses a lot on the collective as he wants his players to play as a team but Senegalese international Sadio Mane performed so well in the first half of the season that he stood out for Liverpool in the midst of that togetherness. Injury has slowed him down a bit in the last three games.
