According to TVI24, Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Bruno Fernandes who has been a long-term transfer target dating back to last year.

The news was corroborated by Filipe Dias, an experienced journalist who works for popular Portuguese media portal O Jogo. He said that the Red Devils will make the Sporting Lisbon midfielder their first signing of the winter transfer window.

The Daily Mail claimed that Manchester United would pay around £55m for the player but Portuguese newspaper Record disclosed that Sporting Lisbon won’t sell their prized asset below €70m (£59.5m).

Bruno Fernandes showed Manchester United what they can expect from him if they manage to pull off his signing after he scored twice during the league game at rivals Victoria Setubal.

The Sporting Lisbon skipper scored either side of the halftime interval to lead his team to a 3-1 win.

The result cemented their place in the top four of the Portuguese Super League.

That brace took his league tally to an impressive eight goals in 15 games plus seven assists.

Manchester United are in need of midfield reinforcements especially with the injuries to key players Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay who are not expected back until February.
