Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos is closing in on a loan move to the second tier of German football as a medical has been scheduled for him.

The young Gunners centre back will undergo medical with Nurnberg from German Bundesliga II on Monday ahead of the official announcement later this week.

According to German newspaper Bild, Nurnberg won the race to sign the Greek player ahead of the likes of Werder Bremen and Fortuna Dusseldorf in the German Bundesliga.

Hannover 96 were also interested in a loan deal for the Arsenal player as well as VfB Stuttgart who have Sven Mslintat as their director of football.

Sven Mslintat was at Arsenal until last season when he left the club after being overlooked for the director of football role at the Emirates Stadium.

Mavropanos has been allowed to leave Arsenal on loan for the rest of the season without any clause of a permanent transfer by manager Mikel Arteta as he’s the sixth choice center back at the club though Calum Chambers has ended his season after a serious knee injury to leave him as the fifth choice.

Kostantinos Mavropanos played his last game for Arsenal in thr Europa League meeting with Standard Liege of Belgium last month.
