It was not all gloom and doom for the Manchester United fans after they watched how their team was taken apart by city rivals Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night as they still had the joy of watching young striker Mason Greenwood blossom against a top opposition.

Manchester United were convincingly beaten by Manchester City in the first leg of their semifinal meeting at Old Trafford as the Red Devils failed to recover from a bad first half which saw them concede three goals.

The Carabao Cup holders closed in on another final appearance (third in a row) with a 3-1 win at the home of their rivals.

After the game, Manchester United were quick to praise Mason Greenwood for his performance against Manchester City as he gave his team a lifeline ahead of the second leg at the Etihad Stadium on the 29th of January.

Mason Greenwood provided the assist for Marcus Rashford on 70 minutes as the Red Devils gave themselves a little glimmer of hope in the tie despite conceding three goals in the first half.

Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Andreas Pereira (own goal) had given the visitors a 3-0 lead at the halftime interval before the fightback from Rashford in the second half.
