Frank Lampard Set To Trigger Striker’s £51m Release Clause

RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner is one of the top transfer targets on the Chelsea transfer shortlist for this winter transfer window as the Blues try to make up for lost times by splashing the cash on new players.

Chelsea were unable to sign new players during last summer’s transfer window because of a ban imposed by FIFA but they are now free to conduct transfer activities just like the other clubs after the intervention of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).

Timo Werner is a player that interests a lot of European clubs but it remains to be seen if RB Leipzig will sanction a move for him during the middle of the season.

The petite German international has scored 23 goals in 24 appearances for his team in all competitions this season.

He has 18 goals in 17 games in the German Bundesliga at the winter stage of this season and only Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has more goals than him in the German top flight.

Polish international Lewandowski has scored 19 league goals this term.

Timo Werner has a release clause in his RB Leipzig contract but there have been mixed reports on its size though The Times revealed that his release clause is £51m.
