The Gunners were keen to sign him in the summer but his £80m asking price from his German Bundesliga club proved to be a step too far for the North Londoners.
He had two years left on his RB Leipzig at that point and that has reduced to just 18 months.
Arsenal officials are hopeful of signing him for £40m next month though it remains to be seen whether RB Leipzig will sanction the transfer with the club in the middle of achieving something big this season.
RB Leipzig are the pacesetters in the German Bundesliga under young manager Julian Nagelsmann as at the halfway stage of the season and are also in the Champions League knockout stage where they face North London club Tottenham Hotspur.
