The agent of Russian Premier League player Fedor Smolov has revealed how his client came close to joining Manchester United in the previous transfer windows.
German Tkachenko said this while he was speaking to Russian YouTube channel KraSaw as he said that Fedor Smolov was seen as an alternative to other transfer targets like Antoine Griezmann and Paulo Dybala.
Fedor Smolov was at Russian top-flight side Krasnodar at the time and he has since moved to Lokomotiv Moscow.
Manchester United have since moved on from Fedor Smolov with their number one striker target thought to be the highly-rated Erling Haaland only for them to lose out on him to German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

The Red Devils were the favorites to sign Erling Haaland from Austrian Bundesliga champions Red Bull Salzburg but they have now missed out on him after the player opted to sign a long-term contract as the new player at Borussia Dortmund.
Erling Haaland became prominent in European football as a result of his goals for Red Bull Salzburg in the league, the Austrian Cup and the Austrian Bundesliga.
The 19-year-old Norwegian international player scored 28 goals in 22 games for Red Bull Salzburg this season until his transfer was confirmed on Sunday.
