Premier League champions Manchester City are looking to strengthen their team defensively when the transfer market reopens in the coming days and they have identified Bournemouth center back Nathan Ake as a potential addition on the defensive front according to the Daily Express.

Manchester City will have to rival Chelsea for Nathan Ake with the Blues also been linked with a January move for the Dutch international player.

Nathan Ake was at Chelsea before he joined Bournemouth permanently in the summer of 2017 and reports claimed that the Blues have a buyback clause in the transfer that took him to the Cherries two years ago and that could prove to be problematic for Manchester City in their bid to sign the player.

Leicester City were interested in signing Nathan Ake this summer as a replacement for Harry Maguire who had left the club for Manchester United in a world-record fee for a defender.

Manchester United paid £80m to sign Harry Maguire in the summer and Leicester City wanted Nathan Ake to replace him before they were scared away by the £75m price tag slammed on him by Bournemouth.

Premier League champions Manchester City have suffered defensively this season mainly due to the serious knee injury sustained by first-choice center-back Aymeric Laporte in August.
