Eric Abidal Set To Sign New Contract

Barcelona technical secretary Eric Abidal has revealed that the club is working on a new contract for star player Lionel Messi who could leave the Spanish champions next summer.

Lionel Messi has a clause in his Barcelona contract that would allow him to leave the club next summer though the Argentine international captain has reiterated that he wants to finish his career at the Nou Camp.

According to former Barcelona left-back Eric Abidal, the announcement on a new Barcelona contract for club skipper Messi is expected soonest.

Lionel Messi struggled for fitness at the start of the season due to a thigh injury but he has recovered to return to his best form.

The Argentine football legend scored a hattrick in his last game for Barcelona including two well-taken free-kicks.

He scored three goals as Barcelona beat Celta Vigo 4-1 to retain their place at the top of the La Liga table.

The treble took him to eight league goals this season and one behind topscorer Karim Benzema of Real Madrid.

Eric Abidal also said that Barcelona are in talks over a new contract for youngster Ansu Fati who has impressed since his introduction to the first team this season.

The Guinea Bissau-born Spanish junior international signed a youth contract in the summer until 2022 with the possibility of two extra years and a release clause of €100m.
