Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has backed the club’s pursuit of Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic ahead of the January transfer window.
Recent media reports had claimed that Manchester United are closing in on a move for the retired Croatian international player.
In an interview with Betfair, Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov backed the pursuit of the aforementioned Mandzukic as he said that the club needs to sign strikers after the summer exits of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.
According to him, any club would have felt the impact of losing two attackers without replacing them.
Dimitar Berbatov understands why Manchester United have struggled in attack after losing the services of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.

The former Bulgarian national team player also pointed out that the lack of goals is down to the injury suffered by main striker Anthony Martial.
Berbatov said that Anthony Martial is the only attacker with a track record of constantly scoring goals and that the team has suffered in his absence.
Anthony Martial has been injured since the league game at home to Crystal Palace in week three.
The French international scored twice in three games in the Premier League.
He’s expected to return to the team for the Liverpool game next week Saturday.
