The January transfer window could be two months away but fallen Premier League giants Manchester United are already putting the groundwork in place for signings.

The Red Devils are gradually closing in on their first signing following the news that an agreement has been reached with the representatives of Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic.

Manchester United want to reinforce their attacking options with the signing of the veteran striker.

The retired Croatian international player has not had much playing time for Juventus this season with a lot of attacking options ahead of him in the pecking order.

Mario Mandzukic is not an attacking favourite of new Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri.

After agreeing a deal with the player, Manchester United will have to reach a transfer fee with the Italian champions to sign the transfer target.

Manchester United were strongly linked with Mario Mandzukic in the summer but the club opted to keep faith with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood but that has not yielded much results with the Red Devils currently struggling for goals.

Manchester United have scored just once in the last three games in the Premier League and that has an area that could improve drastically with the signing of Mario Mandzukic.
