Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi will miss the high profile friendly between Argentina and old foes Germany billed for the Signa Iduna Park, Dortmund on Wednesday night.

Messi has battled with fitness problems since the start of the season but he’s gradually returning to full fitness.

He scored his first goal of the season for Barcelona at the weekend during the Spanish La Liga win over Sevilla at home.

Lionel Messi scored the last goal of the game as Barcelona thrashed Sevilla 4-0 despite finishing the game with nine men.

He will miss the international friendly against the Germans due to the ban imposed on him.

Messi was banned from international football for three months and also fined to the tune of 50,000 dollars after he accused South American officials of being biased in favour of hosts Brazil at this year’s COPA America tournament.

The Barcelona skipper had earlier been sent off in the first half of the third/fourth place playoff game with then champions Chile.

Despite his dismissal, Messi and Argentina took third place with a 2-1 win over the Chileans.

The complaint from Messi came from the semifinal clash with hosts Brazil who eventually won the tournament.

Argentina lost the semifinal to the Brazilians via a 2-0 defeat.
