Former Manchester United defender Steve Bruce — who is now Newcastle manager — has advised one of his players, Sean Longstaff, to ignore rumors linking him with a move to Manchester United.

There have been reports that the English 21-year-old midfielder is one of Solskjaer’s prime targets ahead of January transfer window but Bruce has told the player to focus on improving his performance.

Sean Longstaff has been in an awe-inspiring form for the Magpies since last season and reporters can’t stop linking him with a switch to the Old Trafford outfit.

Speaking ahead of Newcastle’s clash with the Red Devils at St James’ Park, the manager told the youngster to work on his fitness level, having suffered some horrible knee injuries in the previous season.

“Sean Longstaff needs to concentrate on his performances, rather than worrying about speculation,”

“All Sean can do now is recover from his bad knee and start playing well again. He’s a young lad, he was going to be distracted.

“But he’s got to learn to just get on with the job in hand and to forget contracts, forget his knee injury, forget Manchester United . It’s all about getting back to playing for us at the level we know he’s capable of,” he concluded.

Bruce and United are not doing well at the moment and both clubs will hope to return to winning ways against each other later tonight.
