Champions League: Barkley Makes Decision On Taking Penalties After Valencia Incident

Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley has made a decision on taking penalties for his team after he missed one during the disappointing loss to Spanish side Valencia in their Champions League clash on Tuesday night.

England international Barkley told reporters that he will continue to take penalties for Chelsea despite his crucial penalty miss against Valencia.

Chelsea were awarded an 87th-minute penalty with the help of VAR and Ross Barkley was seen arguing with both Willian and Jorginho before taking the resulting spot-kick.

In the end, Ross Barkley struck that penalty against the post and that miss proved to be crucial in the scheme of things after it condemned Chelsea to a defeat on their return to Champions League football.

Chelsea missed Champions League football for just one season.

The Blues were beaten 1-0 by Valencia in their Group H opener courtesy the 74th strike from Spanish striker Rodrigo off an assist from Valencia captain Dani Parejo.

Ross Barkley was backed by his manager after the game.

According to Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, the former Everton player is the designated penalty taker in the team.

For now, Ross Barkley is still the penalty taker for Chelsea despite the call for a more experienced option on the back of his penalty miss against Valencia.

Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid have finally revealed the reason behind the halftime substitution of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois during the Champions League clash with Belgian side Club Brugge on Tuesday evening.

Thibaut Courtois was subbed off for French shot stopper Alphonse Areola at the start of the second half of the aforementioned Champions League game.

Earlier reports had claimed that Real Madrid player was substituted during the Club Brugge because of anxiety but the Spanish giants have released a statement to deny that reason.

It was revealed that the former Chelsea goalkeeper suffered acute gastroenteritis and that was responsible for his early substitution during the Champions League game at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu earlier in the week.

Thibaut Courtois conceded two first half goals to Nigerian striker Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis before his substitution as Real Madrid trailed 2-0 at home to Club Brugge FC of Belgium at that point.

Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos pulled one back for his team in the first ten minutes of the second half before midfielder Casemiro scored the equalizer with five minutes left on the clock shortly after the visitors’ captain Ruud Vormer was sent off for two yellow cards.

The point earned was the first one for Real Madrid in the Champions League this season.
