Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes that Italian Serie A giants Napoli can win the Champions League title this season after his team suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Italians.
Klopp made this known in a chat with reporters during his post-match press conference.
According to him, Napoli have a good plan and good players thus making them candidates for the Champions League title.
Klopp was left disappointed with the manner of the first goal scored by hosts Napoli as he felt his team didn’t deserve to lose the Group E game.
Napoli took the lead in the 82nd minute through a Dries Mertens penalty after Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson was adjudged to have brought down Jose Callejon.
The Italians wrapped up the points on the stroke of full-time through former Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente who had come on as a second half substitute for Hirving Lozano.
Llorente replaced fellow summer signing Lozano and he went on to pounce on the mistake from Virgil Van Dijk to score the second Napoli goal with virtually the last kick of the game.
In the other Champions League game in Group E, Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg thrashed Genk FC of Belgium 5-2 to take the top spot after the first round of games.
