Atletico Madrid have opened a healthy lead on their title rivals at the top of the Spanish La Liga table after the third set of league matches in the new season.

The Spanish capital club maintained their perfect start to the season with a win over Eibar at home.

The victory was not straightforward for Atletico Madrid who had to come from two goals down to beat Eibar 3-2 for their third successive win at the start of the new Spanish La Liga season.

Atletico Madrid have started the season well in their quest to win a first league title in six years.

Eibar went two goals up through Charles and Anaitz Arbilla before Atletico Madrid battled back with three goals to win the game including a stoppage time strike from Ghanaian international Thomas Partey.

Joao Felix is the record signing at Atletico Madrid and he pulled one back for his team before Vitolo leveled proceedings for the Spanish capital outfit paving the way for Partey to score the winning goal.

Atletico Madrid lead the league with nine points from the three games played ahead of Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla with seven points.

Levante are in fourth position with six points, while Atletico Madrid’s city rivals and title rivals Real Madrid are in fifth position with five points after their 2-2 draw at Villarreal on Sunday.

Title favourites and defending champions Barcelona are in the eighth position with four points.
