Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has broken his silence over Alexis Sanchez’s loan move to Inter Milan.

The Chilean striker joined Old Trafford from Arsenal in 2017 but didn’t live up to his billing during his first season at the Theatre of Dreams.

He was given the chance to revive his career last season but he failed to impress the Norwegian boss throughout the campaign.

Having lost Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan in the summer, many Manchester United fans expected the Chilean star to serve as the Belgian’s replacement but that wasn’t the case as Solskjaer isn’t convinced with his output so far.

Responding to questions over Sanchez’s move to the San Siro outfit, the Red Devils manager revealed that Sanchez isn’t the best player to fill the void created by Lukaku’s departure.

Solskjaer admitted that he was in search of a perfect replacement for the Belgian star but he couldn’t find the right player before the close of the summer transfer window in England.

It should be recalled that the manager was linked with moves for Juventus strikers, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic, but United didn’t reach an agreement with the Serie A champions.

“As I said on the way back from tour, we were still looking for one replacement for Romelu if he went,”

“We are one down to be fair, but we didn’t just find the right one. We didn’t find the answer that we wanted.” he said.

Despite losing Sanchez to Inter Milan, the manager is happy with the quality of strikers in his team and he hopes they can help the team achieve their mission for the season.

The Red Devils surprisingly lost to Crystal Palace last weekend, but the manager will hope to see his players return to winning ways when they tackle Southampton at the Saint Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.
