Premier League giants Manchester United are reportedly closing in on their third summer signing.

According to the report from The Guardian, the Red Devils are edging closer to the signing of Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff.

It was revealed that the young midfielder will join Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.

The target for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the signing of young players.

Gone are the days of Galactico signings at Manchester United.

Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff has enjoyed a meteoric rise in English football after just one season.

The 21-year-old broke into the Newcastle United team at the start of last season after two loan spells.

Sean Longstaff spent loan periods at English League One club Blackpool and Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock.

He made his debut for Newcastle United in their League Cup clash with Championship club Nottingham Forest.

In total, Sean Longstaff made 14 appearances for the Magpies in all competitions including nine games in the Premier League.

His season ended abruptly as a result of a serious knee injury.

Newcastle United had earlier said that the player is not for sale.

Recent reports claimed that Manchester United will have to spend as much as £50m to sign Longstaff.
