Newly appointed Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has received a congratulatory message from ex-Chelsea teammate Ashley Cole in the wake of his appointment as the replacement for Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.

In his Instagram post, Ashley Cole thanked Frank Lampard for giving him an opportunity at Derby County before wishing him good luck in his new job.

Frank Lampard was responsible for his short-term spell at Derby County this year.

After the end of his contract with Major League Soccer (MLS) club LA Galaxy, Ashley Cole joined English Championship outfit Derby County on a short-term deal during the winter transfer window in January thanks to the influence of Frank Lampard.

He went on to score one goal in 12 appearances with his last outing coming during the Championship playoff final which Derby County lost 2-1 to an Aston Villa side that secured promotion to the Premier League.

His short-term spell at Derby County has ended though Frank Lampard had earlier said that Ashley Cole could still stay at the club shortly before his appointment as the new Chelsea boss.

Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard were formerly in the same playing squad at Chelsea.

Both players were instrumental to the 2012 Champions League triumph.
