North London giants Arsenal have been handed a major transfer boost in their bid to sign highly rated Saint Etienne defender William Saliba this summer.

This is according to the publication from Football London which claimed that the Gunners are closing in on a £25m (€30m) transfer for the young French centre back.

It was revealed that Arsenal have matched the £25m bid requested for the player by Saint Etienne and that the Gunners have also agreed to the ‘loan back’ clause.

Saint Etienne want the player to return to the club on loan for the new season on the back of his transfer confirmation.

William Saliba became a known force in French football after his sensational debut season for Saint Etienne.

He made 16 appearances for Saint Etienne in the league as the French club came close to securing a Champions League spot.

In the end, Saliba and Saint Etienne finished the last league season in fourth position thus securing a place in the group stage of the Europa League in the new season.

Only the top three teams qualified for the Champions League for next season.

William Saliba is yet to make an appearance for the senior French team but he has already represented his country at various youth levels.
